Rodchenko & Popova-Exhibition review • Tate Modern

Aleksandr Rodchenko and Liubov Popova were two of the most influential figures in creating what we know fondly call the Constructivist movement. Tate Modern currently explores their work, from paintings to commercial pieces, and examines their place on the modern art timeline and their influence to art as a whole.

Constructivism was more of a mindset than an art movement. It originated in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century, and covered everything from art itself through architecture, theatre, fashion, graphic design and advertising. It considered art as a practice rather than something with a pretentious objective. Its concepts and properties have gradually filtered through art and still influence artists today.
